In true Urban Decay style there was a huge buzz in the beauty world surrounding the release of the new Naked 3 Palette. I already own Naked 2 so was especially excited when this beauty landed on my desk.

The packaging is pretty standard for a Naked palette large mirror and a sturdy case, top points to the double ended brush which is great for applying and blending eyeshadow. The thing that really sets this palette apart from its predecessors is that every shade is completely exclusive to Naked 3.

The overall hue of this palette has pink undertones some of which are on the cooler side that will undoubtedly suit fair skin tones. Personally I gravitated towards the darker side of the Naked 3 as they complimented my deeper completion. Don't get me wrong I do like the paler shades but I'm going to need a lighter base to make them pop. My favourite colours in the collection are Blackheart, Trick and Factory I loved blending the three using Blackheart on the outer corner trick on the inner eye and Factory over the lid. The only shade in Naked 3 that I didn't get on with as much was Strange as it came out quite ashy on me. That said it's still a great palette and I can see myself getting lots of wear out of it. Naked 3 also comes with several pods of Primer Potion with each pod lasting around a week, this was a huge bonus as my current primer is running low.

Have you picked up Naked 3? If you have what are your top shades?

January Sale Survival Guide

sale shopping guide, how to shop in the sales, january sales, christmas sales, shopping guide

The Christmas season is pretty much over. We've all over indulged in food, the odd alcoholic tipple and to much general festivities, and for some the post Christmas blues have set in.

Not to fear the January sales are upon us picture hours of queueing in the cold, frenzied shoppers, followed by standing in the world longest queue for the till. Just what you need to top off the festive season. I hear you groan at the very thought of venturing out into the chaos of bargain hunters. We've all seen them (or maybe we are them), they have that focused don't mess with me look in their eye. They come armed with their plastic and maybe even a friend or two to save their space in the queue. Picture this you spot a great pair of jeans (or insert what ever item you desire here), they look like their in your size you reach for them, but another hand touches them at the same time as yours. You look up and are met with an unwavering, steely pair of eyes and a hard set scowl, that says these are mine - all mine! You narrow your eyes in indignation grit your teeth and try to pull the jeans towards you. However you are met with a cast iron grip. It's a stand off, quite literally handbags at dawn. Ok so I know I may be exaggerating here (it was fun to indulge for a moment) but January sale shopping really doesn't need to be so dramatic. All you need are a few savvy tips to get you through and help you come out with a few bargains.

Have a plan

Come up with a list of a few key items and set yourself a budget after the Christmas over spend you may need to be careful here. Think about the shops you really want to visit and make sure you know where they are in the  shopping centre.

Enlist a friend

Or two to shop with you, you can divvy up the shopping lists and conquer the queues together. If you're stuck in a long line it's better if you have someone to keep your company. Having a BFF with you may also be handy in the emergency save my space moments.

Dress for the occasion

There's nothing worse than being stuck in an uncomfortable outfit for a long day. You want to be wearing your most comfortable shoes, the sort that can protect your feet form all the standing your going to be doing. My personal tip are a pair of flats, easy to wear trousers and layers (but not too many as it will make the changing rooms a very long process). It gets hot in the shops and can be tricky to regulate your body temperature. Its freezing outside but the mixture of heating and a mass of bodies indoors makes for overheating. Being able to pop a cardi or jumper off quickly to cool down is a God send. Finally I like to wear an across the body bag, it means my hands are free and always have quick easy access to my essentials.

Fuel up

Your going to need to keep your energy levels up so a handy snack will see you through. After the festivities I can't usually bare any rich food so tend to go for more simple whole foods. Nuts, raisins, granola and dried fruit are great as a slow energy releasing healthy snack.

Have fun

It's a lot easier to do something if your enjoying it. So why not treat it as a fun day out, grab some lunch, catch up with friends over a coffee or go against the grain and just stroll around the shops, there doesn't need to be the pressure of rushing around buying everything in sight.

On line

Finally if you really can't bare the shops the Internet is always there. Word of caution keep close eye on how much your sending while on line it's very easy for things ting to get out of control. Also make sure you are shopping on trusted sites, when making transactions look for the padlock symbol in the browser bar to be sure that your transactions are done securely. Why not make a little extra dosh and use cash back sites you can find a list of them here.

What are your top shopping and sale survival tips, let me know in the comment section.

Happy shopping loves!

Mince Pies are an absolute staple at Christmas perfect for a night in or to serve guests at a party. However I'm personally not a fan of the shop bought ones, I think it's the short crust pastry. A few years ago I came up with the not so ingenious idea of using puff pastry. They went down a treat, and so my puff pasty minced pies were born. Today I'm going to share with you my guide to perfect (and quick) mince puff mice pie.

Nothing says Christmas like a good old wreath, I always pick up a fresh one when I buy my Christmas tree. This year in addition to my usual fresh wreath I've made this bright coloured version out of some extra decorations. I have a bad habit of buying far too many Christmas tree decorations so I figured I could use the excess to make a matching wreath. Mine has taken pride of place on the door, where will you put yours?

Cosy knits are what this time of year is all about. Recently I've been really into creative yet fun ways to bump up standard knit wear. I was inspired to delve into the world of elbow patches when I spotted a colleague at working rocking a comfy knit with a bold elbow patch. Once the expected fawning was over I headed over to Pinterest for some patch inspiration. It would seem that elbow patches are no longer the uniform of granddads and geeks - we're all jumping on the bandwagon!

DIY Jewelled Cropped Jumper

Jumper eBay | Jeans Next | Shirt Primark | Hat Primark | Boots eBay
I mentioned in this post that I was loving cropped and jewelled jumpers. I decided to take the plunge and make one. I'm at the very early stages of learning to knit so I didn't go ahead and make one from scratch. I did however customise an old jumper that a had gathering dust in the back of my wardrobe.

I've gone with instructions on this one, I did record a video but the file was corrupted and wouldn't upload. Not one to waste a very good DIY I'm powering ahead any way.

Your going to need:
- An old jumper
- Fabric chalk or a marker that washes off
- Fabric scissors
- Sequins or sew on beads/jewels
- Needle & thread in a matching colour
- Sewing machine
- Tape measure
- Dress makers pins

  • Start by laying your jumper flat (on the wrong side) and marking where you want it to be cropped. You will need to add around 1cm allowance for the hem.
  • Using your chalk or marker draw onto the jumper the shape of the new cropped hem. I wanted it to be curved, longer in the front and shorter in the back so I drew this onto the jumper making sure I added that 1cm for the hem.
  • Once your are happy with the outline you have drawn you will need to cut it out
  • Fold the new hem over then use the pins to secure it in place
  • Pop your jumper onto the sewing machine and secure the hem in place. I opted to use a ziz zag stitch to catch any raw edges.
  • Now its time for the fun part (well for me anyway) grab your sequins or beads/gems and needle and thread. Go ahead and attach the sequins around the neckline (or where ever you would like them). I opted to sew them on in a random method adding a few purple beads here and there for a touch of colour. I did however want there to be more fullness of gems towards the centre of the neckline so added more beads there.
  • Once your done trim away any loose threads, it's also worth running an iron along the hem to straighten out any wrinkles.
That's it your done you now have a cropped jewelled jumper! There's a strong possibility that I could be wearing this as my Christmas day jumper I'm thinking the jewels add a little festive flavour.

What do you think, will you be giving this one a go?
