Music Monday ~ Luke James

luke james, mrs carter world tour, support beyonce, IOU, i want you
Tonight I'm going to be shaking my thang at the Mrs Carter World Tour Concert at the O2. I'm beyond excited to see the woman herself. Supporting Beyonce tonight is this soulful gentleman Luke James. Singer, song writer and dancer James began his career doing backing vocals. After featuring in Beyonce's video Run The World as a dancer he will be supporting her on the UK leg of her tour.

If you've never heard of Luke James let me introduce you, I personally love his track I.O.U. For me this is rnb at it's best smooth, silky and classy.

If you'd like to hear more from Luke James check out his VEVO channel.

Last month I wrote this post on a quick ripped jeans DIY tutorial and promised to an OOTD. (For those of you that don't know OOTD means Outfit Of The Day in blogger speak) Not wanting to break my promise here is my take on styling ripped jeans. I wore this outfit on Sunday to a family dinner, minus the heels I'm more of a flats girls so changed into more comfy shoes. The rays of sunshine got me inspired to team something soft and floaty with the tougher rips of the jeans. Also family get together's always equal lots and lots of food, so I needed something loose to conceal the evidence of my over indulgence.

I'm hoping to do more of these styling OOTD type posts especially now that the days are longer and brighter.

So what do you think?

Music Monday ~ Jessie J Radio One Live Lounge

jessie j, jessie j live lounge, jessie j radio one live lounge, live lounge

I love listening to music while I work it helps me focus. Recently I was having a low motivation day, but I had a large report to complete and a tight deadline. There was only one cure music, so on came a trusted old friend of mine my Youtube playlist of Radio 1 Live lounge tracks. That day actually rekindled my love for Live Lounge sessions, in particular this Jessie J version of Rihanna's We found Love. I thought the Rihanna version was good. That said once I heard Jessie J's take, for me it pretty much blew Rihanna's out the water. I know for lots of people Jessie is like Marmite you either love or hate her, despite thinking she has an amazing voice I'm not the biggest fan of her music, but I do like her OOT personality especially on the Voice.

Which Jessie J camp are you, love or hate? Also I'm always looking for new live lounge tracks to listen to, let me know your recommendations.

Spring Pastels Wish List

Spring fashion, top shop, zara, dorothy perkins, also shoes, river island, pastel colours for spring,

Zara studded sandal | Dorothy Perkins bomber | HM trousers | Top Shop bag | River Island lace top | Aldo necklace

It's official spring is here people, well it made an appearance on Sunday anyway. The blue skies, warm weather and gentle breeze got me thinking I need to update my wardrobe with some spring like attire! I for one can't blooming wait to stuff my jumpers and woolly hats to the back of my wardrobe,  to make way for some more summery items. Since I'm going to give my wardrobe a bit of a spring clean, I thought why not put together a cheeky wish list with a few of my current favourites from the high street. I'm absolutely loving pastel colours at the moment, especially mixing mint greens with light pinks, I've even been doing my nails in pastel shades. There's a very strong chance that the Zara sandals and HM trousers will be purchased come pay day, as I've had my eye on them for a while now.

Are you loving pastel shades at the moment?

Ok so I've gone a bit ombre mad recently, first it was my hair now it's my clothes! I'm not sure whats next, but I'm sure I'll blog about it. Just like my hair I've been wanting ombre my clothes for ages, I spied this t-shirt on ASOS and loved the baggy oversized style. Instantly I saw it in a very pale blue ombre.  A quick trip to my local Hobby Craft for some dye and before I knew it I hand an ombre top.

Thinking of giving ombre a go? Check out my video with easy to follow instructions.

Music Monday ~ SWV

SWV, rnb, music, rnb music, girl group
Today I'm taking it back, way back to the days of double denim, high tops, pigtails and RnB girl groups. I was a huge fan (still am) of SWV, growing up they were the girl group I admired. The denim shorts, leggings and hair were so glamorous. I spent many an afternoon with my childhood best friend Tal, in front of the mirror armed with our mothers earrings, red lipstick, and hair brushes copying the dance routines.

As I was writing this post I took a look back at some old SWV videos and couldn't help but notice their styling is pretty similar Rihanna. It was really hard to pick one SWV track as my absolute favourite, so I didn't here are a few of my top SWV songs.

Any one else remember SWV? Whats your favourite SWV song?

Ombre Hair

I've been longingly looking at lots of girls rocking Ombre hair for ages, trying to build up the courage to go Ombre myself. After work on Friday I finally bit the bullet and went for it, out came the dye and the bleach. I've been wearing my hair in extensions for a while now and I figured it would be less risky to Ombre the extensions rather than to go for it with my own hair. I was a bit nervous during the process. I kept having visions of horrible bright orange hair, or all my hair falling off! My worries were laid to rest when I saw the end result, put simply I love it. I wanted a more subtle Ombre look nothing too loud or OTT, just a splash of colour which I'm hoping will look great in the spring sunshine. The icing on the cake came from my hubby his "I like your new hair do" compliment was high praise indeed.

What do you think guys?

Braided Hair Inspiration

Braided hair was all over the spring/summer catwalks with the likes of Antonio Berardi, David Koma and Marchesa models rocking various braids and plaits. It's such a pretty way to style hair and can work for every hair type. Unfortunately for me, I don't seem to have the braiding know how. I'm ashamed to admit it but my braiding skills are pretty dreadful. Seeing all these pretty plaits and braids have got me inspired to brush up on my braiding techniques. So cue some Pinterest inspiration and lots of youtube study sessions. I'm hoping that in a couple of weeks I'll be able to create some pretty braided looks like these, in time for the spring weather.

Red lips are timeless, they ooze sensuality and scream look at me! I've got quite a few red's in my collection but these are my most reached for shades.

Mac Diva is a deep claret red with a matte finish. This is actually my first ever red lippy. It was a good introduction to bold lips I found the deeper hue wasn't as bright as it's contemporaries, so less intimidating. Rimmel Apocalips Big Bang is the newest addition to my collection this lip lacquer packs a real punch it's high shine with some serious staying power. I've done a full blog post on the Apocalips range here. Maybelline Pleasure Me Red is actually my second ever red lipstick, I bought it for a christmas party, as I wanted something a little bolder then Mac's Diva and was feeling pretty adventurous that day. Well my bravery paid off as I love this colour and reach for it when I feel like a bit of glam. Lastly we have Ruby Woo, I got this for Christmas from my husband. I'd been lusting after Ruby Woo for months so when Christmas day arrived and I unwrapped the paper to find the sleek bullet, lets just say I was a happy girl.

One tip for wearing red lippy is to make sure your lips are in good condition, particularly if your wearing a Matte finish, like Diva or Ruby Woo. I like to use the Lush popcorn lip scrub to exfoliate my lips and get rid of any dry skin, I follow this up with a lip balm to moisturise and I'm good to go.

So tell me what are your favourite reds?

Music Monday ~ Laura Mvula

laura mvula, sing to the moon, green green garden, thats alright
I first heard of Laura Mvula a few months ago, while watching The Graham Norton Show. Mark Wahlberg was on with some other guests, who I can't quite remember, and was behaving badly. Typically I found him quite hilarious. Anyway, on walks Laura with her big smile, edgy hair cut and flawless skin. I loved her vocals but wasn't instantly blown away by the song. So much so I can't quite remember it. That said there was just something about Laura that made want to know more.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. Before I knew it she had grown on me. To wet your appetite have a listen to That's Alright, which is current my favourite song of hers. For me Laura has a very different sound to other female artists floating around. I love the unique swing/gospel esq sound her music takes. She also strikes me as someone with a very definite sense of style and identity as an artist. Laura's album Sing To The Moon is currently on iTunes.

Ok so enough of me chatting on what do you think?

Salted Caramel Brownies

salted caramel brownies
So I had a little help from Betty (Betty Crocker that is) with this one. I love baking but I'm not that confident in my abilities just yet. I've been wanting to bake all last week but work had been so busy and I was just too tired to bother getting in the kitchen after work. The weekend rolled around and I was determined to bake my brownies, but as with everything I was short for time. It's in these circumstances that Betty comes in handy. I have to admit I've never actually tried this recipe before and was a tad nervous about deviating from the guidelines on the back of the box. Hey that's me always the risk taker in the kitchen. Well my little risk paid off and a bite of this yummy goodness was an explosion of rich coco, smooth caramel and the slight edge of salt. One word Amazing! Any way enough of babbling on, go and try it for yourself right now!
Your going to need:

  • 1 packet of Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix
  • 1 medium egg
  • 75ml water
  • 3 table spoons vegetable oil
  • 2 table spoon vanilla extract or essence
  • 4 table spoons of salted caramel

Start by pre heating the oven at 180. Put the brownie dry mix, in a bowl with the egg, water, vegetable oil, and vanilla. With an electric whisk blend the ingredients into smooth mixture.
Add 3 table spoons of the caramel to the mixture. The whisk again.

Lightly grease a baking tray. Pour the mixture into the baking and spread it evenly in the tray.

Get the remaining table spoon of caramel and drizzle over the top of the mixture. The caramel I used was quit solid so I popped it in the microwave for 30 seconds to melt ca little.

Bake in the oven for 20-25 min or until when pierced with a rounded knife it comes out semi clean.
Leave to cool then tuck in!
I hope you enjoy eating this as much as I did, it really is divine.

Bobbi Brown Corrector - First Thoughts

Like lots of girls I suffer from the dreaded dark circles under my eyes. I feel like I've tried every other product under the sun that claims to treat discolouration and dark patches, unfortunately nothing seems to work for me. I tend to use an under eye concealer but this can lead to either an ashy or cakey finish.

I'd been recommended to give the Bobbi Brown Corrector a try. So off I went to the Selfridges beauty hall for an afternoon of beauty browsing.

I've been using the corrector for a few days now and quite like it. It's early days still but I've liked the formula, the dark bisque shade that I have is a pretty good match for my skin tone. The idea of the corrector is to neutralise the dark areas. Where as a concealer tends to highlight the skin and conceal blemishes. The corrector blends into the skin to even out the skin tone. I've found the corrector quite thick but it's creamy enough to work with and blend in. I've tried applying it on top if my foundation and underneath. I have to say for me it works best and blends well, applied before (under) my foundation.

So far so good with this product for me. What about you, have you tried the corrector before? What other Bobbi Brown products can you recommend?
