Firmoo Glasses

*sponsored post

Recently I was contacted by the lovely people at Firmoo and asked if I would like to review a pair of their glasses. My immediate thought was heck yeah! Firmoo are an online retailer specialising in prescription and non prescription glasses and sun glasses.

I wear glasses normally for driving and using the computer, but recently have been thinking of switching things up. I though the opportunity to road test a pair of specs would be perfect.

The idea that glasses are only for us four eyed folk is well and truly out the window. Recently it seems everyone has jumped on the spexy beast bang waggon, and glasses have become much more of a fashion accessory. They can also be a great way to upgrade your look with many non prescription fashion lead frames finding their onto the high street.

You can find the pair I got  here

I often feel a bit self conscious trying on new glasses in the shop, so was pleased when I noticed Firmoo's virtual try on service. You are able to upload a picture of yourself and select the glasses you would like to try on.

Firmoo currently have an amazing offer where new customers are able to get their first pair free (this offer is currently available world wide).   Shipping is not included so you would have to pay for that, but if your dissatisfied you are able to get a full refund.

My glasses were delivered quickly and I was pretty impressed with the quality, they came with a hard case (great if your glasses spend lots of time in an overcrowded hand bag like mine) and a draw string bag if you need to travel light.

Overall I'm really happy with my glasses, and seriously considering ordering my next prescription pair from Firmoo!

Music Monday ~ Maxwell Pretty Wings

This week's music Monday is a a throw back to 2009, Maxwell's beautiful bitter sweet love song 'Pretty Wings". This song is all about having a beautiful love but at the wrong time, and being strong enough to let someone you love go (I'm tearing up just thinking about it).

I really don't have much to say about this one (for once) as for me the song speaks for it's self.

I hope you enjoy

Five Favourites ~ In My Mind

I've recently had a break from doing any fashion DIY. That said I think the bug is well and truly back. I've spent lots of time this week in my head space and sketch book working out new projects that I'm looking forward to sharing.

I came across this Red stretch fabric it's going to be great for the party season

Finally getting round to the camouflage clutch mentioned here

A glimpse into my sketch book

Couldn't resist adding a bit of fashion into the mix - I've jumped on the studded band wagon these boots from Primark were such a bargain

I'm turning into a real beauty addict, enjoying using these products as part of my night time routine

Liebster Award

I have some good news to share with you guys. This little blog of mine has been nominated not once but TWICE!! For the Liebster Award! (apologies for the over use of exclamation marks but I'm really excited).

I was nominated by Eliza K's Klozet and Pretty Luscious Things. Thank you so much ladies I'm feeling really honoured that you thought of me.

I have to admit I hadn't heard of the Liebster award until I was nominated - shameful I know. So for those of you who may still be in the dark, here's the run down.

Liebster is the German word for dearest, other translations mean favourite or beloved. The award is given from one blogger to another, and is a way of saying "dearest blogger" or "favourite blogger". To be nominated for the award you must be a blogger with under 200 followers.

How does the Liebster award work, you may be asking? Well, when you are nominated you need to give 11 random facts about yourself. You are also set 11 questions to answer by the person that nominated you. You then need to nominate 11 other bloggers and set your own 11 questions for them to answer. You also have to notify your nominee's, that could be a Tweet, Facebook message or comment on their blog.

So onto the random facts

  1. My favourite number is 10, as a child I couldn't wait to hit double figures and it's stuck with me since then
  2. I'm scared of dogs but like the idea of owning a Cocker Spaniel
  3. I don't have a favourite colour
  4. I could eat rum & raisin ice cream all day
  5. I wear odd socks almost all the time
  6. My ironing skills are awful
  7. I cry really easily and at the silliest things
  8. I don't think I could go a day without using some sort of lip balm or gloss
  9. My phone is constantly by my side
  10. There's a 10 year age gap between me and my sister
  11. I was born in Guyana

I was nominated twice and wanted to answer all the questions so this bit may take a while - so please bare with me.

My questions from Miss Pretty Luscious Things

1. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging as I'd really got into reading blogs and thought "this is something I could do" I also like the odd bit of fashion DIY and thought it would be nice to add some of that into the mix.

2. Whats the biggest misconception people have about your blog or blogging?
The biggest misconception people have about my blog is probably that my name is Renee, it's actually my middle name. First name being Janine. In terms of blogging in general I think people may see it as quite solitary (which it can be) but I have found a great community out there, that are kind and supportive.

3. What would you like to see more or less of on blog?
Less typical outfit posts (I get bored with them), by that I mean loads of outfit pictures and nothing else. I love fashion and outfit posts that have a funny or interesting story to go with them, so more of that please.

4. Favourite cringe worthy band/film you are too embraced to tell people you like?
I don't really have anything I like that I'm ashamed of but I like the film Little Women and I know some people think it's cheesy.

5. Who is your ideal man/woman and why?
That's an easy one, it would have to be my hubby

Again I have two "feel the fear and do it anyway" and "What ever is meant for you will not pass you by"

My questions from Eliza K's Klozet

1. Which magazine most inspires you?
Since I got into blogging I don't read as many magazines but I love Elle, Glamour is a close second

2. If you could choose one super power what would it be?
I'm torn between flight and invisibility!

3. Chocolate or Crisps?
Crisps all the way, more specifically sea salt and balsamic vinegar Kettle Chips

4. Summer or Winter?
I love the summer - don't think I was built for the cold

5. Have you ever been travelling, if so where was your favourite place?
I actually have two Santorini because it's where I got married and the Maldives because it's so tranquil and relaxing.

6. If you could write for a company who would it be for?
I don't have a specific company in mind but like the idea of writing for a magazine with a nice mix of fashion, beauty and lifestyle.

7.What's your job?
I have a great job and work with some of the nicest people ever (I say that honestly hand on heart). I work in the youth department of a women's charity. It doesn't feel like work most days!

8. 3 words that describe you?
Calm (on the surface at least), out going, easily irritated - sorry that wasn't 3 words.

9. I mentioned a phobia whats yours?
Dogs, I'm scared of dogs - all I'm going to say is there was an incident involving a Dalmatian, a relay race and a cricket match. It didn't end well!

Real Techniques Stippling Brush

Real Techniques Stippling Brush £11.99 from Boots.com

I gave into temptation a few days ago and bought the Real Techniques Stippling Brush from Boots. The Real Techniques brushes are the brain child of Samantha Chapman one half of the Pixiwoo youtube duo (check out their makeup tutorials). In addition to being a Youtube guru (with her sister Nic) Sam is a professional makeup artist with over 15 years experience.

The Stippling Brush is an all rounder and is designed to work well with a range of foundations and powders including liquid and cream formula's, it can also be used with highlighters. I loved how soft the bristles were and the fact that the brush has a flat base so can stand upright (very handy). I used the Stippling Brush with my YSL Touch Eclat foundation which is a liquid formula. I applied a small amount of foundation to the back of my hand and dipped the brush in it. I swirled the brush in a circular motion on my face to apply the product. I found that it had a buffing effect to my skin which gave that flawless finish. My pet hate with brushed is getting loose strands on your face, which seems to happens with cheaper brushes. This didn't happen with the Real Techniques brush at all, which is a real bonus for me.

I've washed it a few times and the brush has come up really well, I was especially surprised at how quickly it dried, there was no time wasting.

I already have quite a few Real Techniques brushes (maybe I'll do a post on them), they were my first jump from cheaper drug store versions. One thing I really like about the range is that it's colour coded. The Golden brushes are for bases products, Purple for eyes and Pink for finishing (e.g. setting or blush brushes). If you're anything like me and get confused with the different types of brushes around, the colour coding system helps to simplify things.

I really can't find fault with this brush - believe me I've tried. It's a great tool and a nice little addition to my makeup collection.

Do you have Real Technique Brushes if you which are your favourites?

Music Monday ~ Miguel Adorn

Today's Music Monday is super short and sweet in the form Miguel's Adorn. I love his silky vocals on this track. I've had this song on repeat on my iPod for a few weeks now, so though I had to share.

Hope you enjoy let me know what you think.

Five Favourites ~ Details

I've been feeling a bit rough and out of sorts this week. Needless to say life goes on and has been quite busy, work has been hectic as always. I also headed down to the School Of Grazia, Vlogging Master Class at the Apple store Regent Street, on Monday evening. It was a great event I learnt so much about vlogging and Youtube in general. Lilly Pebbles of What I Heart Today, Gemma from Gemsmaquillage and Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup made up the the panel. I have to say these ladies are some of my favourite Youtubers and they did a great job telling us all about the world of Youtube.

As I was rushing into work I had to snap this pretty Autumnal street

I've been looking forward to coming home to my cosy bed comfy cushions all week

Rediscovered my love for this House of Harlow bangle

Been rocking sparkly and nude nails this week

Argan Oil v Argan Oil

Hollywood Beauty Aron Oil (from local hair shop) £5.00 ~ Moroccan Oil Treatment £ 12.85 (Feel Unique)

Argan Oil has been on the beauty scene for ages. It's featured on every other blog and in all the magazines. I thought I would add my two pence.

I've been trying both the Hollywood Beauty and the Moroccan Oil Treatment versions for a few months now and wanted to do a bit of a comparison.

You know that old saying size matters? Well it's true, it really does. Both bottles are quite small but you can see in the first pic just how small the the Moroccan Oil Treatment is compared to the Hollywood Beauty version. When you put this with the rather hefty price tag (£12.85 for 25ml compared to £5.00 for 88.7ml for the Hollywood Beauty) it' hard to justify purchasing the Moroccan Oil Treatment. I'm not going to lie I was initially put off by this. But I'd heard so many good things about it and wanted to give it a try.

I'm really particular about my hair and the products I use on it as I have a fear of breakage! To keep my hair healthy it's needs daily moisture. That said I hate my hair to feel overly greasy. With these products being an oil, I was a little concerned that I'd end up with a seriously greasy head of hair. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I applied both oils to my hair, my locks weren't left feeling overly oily but more silky instead.

I tend to use a few drops of Caster Oil in my hair when washing it, to give it a bit of a treatment and some extra moisture. I decided to replace it with the Argan Oil instead, it was brilliant! I found the Caster Oil would make my hair a bit sticky even after washing it out. I didn't experience this at all with the Argan Oil in fact my hair was super easy to blow dry and to get the knots out.

I'm really fussy when it comes to smells and hate over powering scents. I have to say I didn't love the Hollywood Hair fragrance I found it a bit too sweet. Where as the Moroccan Oil Treatment seemed to get the balance just right. Fragrance is a very personal thing so I'm sure others would disagree.

It's really hard to say which product has the edge as their pretty balanced with pro's and con's. The Hollywood Hair version is much better value for money while the Moroccan Oil Treatment smells amazing and has nicer packaging. Basically I'm torn, the bargain hunter in me would go for the Hollywood Hair but I do love a little bit of luxury.

Have you tried either of them? Which one would you go for?

Music Monday ~ Delilah

Just a quick one today about Delilah. I'm loving this urban songstress at the moment, Delilah's powerful haunting vocals have me hooked.

She's been on the scene for some time now lending her vocals to a number of club banging funky house and garage tracks. In addition she's lent her song writing skills to several artists, including Plan B and Wretch32. I nearly forgot to mention she also accompanied Prince on tour! I know Prince - need I say more.

This is one seriously talented lady singer, song writer and all round performer.

These are a few of my favourite Delilah songs. What do you think of Delilah?
